K-Swiss K-Ruuz $85

K-Swiss K-Ruuz $85
The swiftest member of the K-Swiss running family features the same serious focus as the rest of the line.

It also features a few triathlon-inspired touches: laces with link-sausagelike texture to stay tied, drainage through the shank, and perforations at the toe and heel for air flow (which K-Swiss calls its “FlowCool System”). The upper is open mesh with HF-welded midfoot overlays. The midsole is very low profile with a Superfoam crash pad and Strobel board for cushioning. There’s a small medial post for stability, which is especially useful in a racer since fatigue usually results in reduced biomechanical efficiency (you know, your form breaks down as you near the end of a race). Overall, the K-Ruuz is an excellent racer for the speedy, but it’s so lightweight that it’s better suited to shorter races.

  • Sizes: men 8–12,13,14; women 5.5–10,11
  • Weight: 6.0 oz. (men’s 11); 4.6 oz. (women’s 8)
  • Shape: semi-curved Fit: snug heel, close-fitting forefoot
  • For: medium- to high-arched feet with neutral biomechanics to very mild overpronation
  • Range: efficient runners - up to 35K or beyond; heavy strikers - up to 15K

Boone Winter Marathon

Boone, NC

The Boone Marathon Series is really for runners of any distance. The course is a 3.75-mile out-and-back, but you don't even have to do the whole out-and-back if you're not ready for 3.75 miles. Really, runners and walkers of any distance or ability level are welcome here. Our main goal is to create a race environment that is simple and as inexpensive as possible. We're not here to make money (in fact, leave your wallets and purses in the car). It's all about the people here, and we try to be as laid back as possible. We're here for you, the runner. We want to be your backup if plans for another marathon fall through. We want to be a training run for a future race. We want to be a place where you can come meet some other interesting runners. We want to be a place for you to push yourself to get a PR or challenge yourself to run further.

Raleigh is often described as "a park with a city in it." The marathon will take runners through the city's downtown core, which has undergone a $2 billion renaissance, and over serene trails of the 5,400-acre William B. Umstead Park. From urban renewal to protected forestland, runners will experience what Forbes considers the #6 Best City for Singles and #2 Best City for Business, and one of Runner's World Great Destinations Off the Beaten Path.A figure 8-shaped course, this 26.2-mile route allows the Marathon and Half Marathon to offer something for everyone. Gentle, rolling terrain starts the course from Centennial Campus of N.C. State University. Continuing toward downtown Raleigh, the race passes through historic residential neighborhoods, the newly-reopened Fayetteville Street, the N.C. State Capitol, trendy Glenwood South entertainment district, and the oak tree-lined Cameron Village enclave. The race continues past Meredith College and the N.C. State University College of Veterinary Medicine before the half marathoners turn around and head back to N. C. State University and to the finish.

the Grandfather Mountain Marathon held each year (since 1969) during the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, one of the largest Scottish Games in America. This marathon begins in Boone, NC at the Appalachian State University on the track at the Kidd Brewer Stadium, home of the 3-time NCAA Division 1 Football National Champions. The marathon then winds through the breath-taking NC Blue Ridge Mountains, over the Blue Ridge Parkway, up long steep climbs to McRae Meadows where you will be greeted by the sound of bagpipes and an estimated 15,000 spectators. This unique marathon will provide challenges that are overcome by the rewards. We do ask that you read through this website before entering so you are aware of the challenge of the race as well as the challenges of the race logistics, including lodging and parking. We do have a race limit due to the Blue Ridge Parkway event rules and we fill up EVERY year by mid-May. The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games have provided a great deal on a shuttle, as there is NO parking at the finish line. Since hotels fill up months in advance for these Games, we provide unlimited accommodations on campus. So come enjoy our wonderful university through the eyes of a student and share a unique experience with runners from about 25 different states and several different countries.

Umstead Trail Marathon
March
Raleigh, NC
umsteadmarathon@earthlink.net
http://www.umsteadmarathon.com
All 26.2 miles of the marathon will be run within the borders of William B. Umstead State Park, a five thousand-acre tract of dense woods, lakes, streams, hills, and trails that rests between the cities of Raleigh, Cary, and Durham. The course consists of some technical single-track, but is mostly run on the park's bridle trails, which are the width of a single lane road and covered with fine gravel. The route is scenic and hilly. This is a challenging race with many hills and some single-track sections consisting of narrow trails with rocks and roots. There is also a six-hour cut off. Finishers will receive distinctive pint glasses with the race logo. Sorry, no race medals. Some people love this sort of thing, but it is not for everyone. We love it and hope you will too.
